These Carter Brothers Passenger cars kits were designed by David Fletcher for his Master Class on MyLargeScale.com.
Bronson-Tate was one of the original cutters for Davids kits. It is with his permission that we are able to offer these kits to the general public.
The Carter Brothers began building passenger cars in the early 1870's. There were design and detail errors in these early cars that Carters would later rectify in designs that followed, but despite that, the visual style of the Carters car remains reasonably consistent.
Carter cars would see upgrades over the years, with the basic design. Some would remain in service through to the 1920s and 30s. The design moved from the smooth sided 'board & batten' to the more modern planked sided cars. The car bodies are 36' to the body ends, and is a little over 40' to the end beams. Around the 1880 time period, Carter switched to using taller cast iron queen posts on the needle beams along with boxed in steps.
It is these later cars that our kits are designed from.
Our kits are built out of laser cut aircraft grade plywood, basswood strip wood, and laser cut styrene. The kits have a fully framed undercarriage and include all the necessary white metal castings, steel and brass rods and Hartland trucks. The interior features include door and window trim, operating doors and laser cut styrene bench seats.
The Duck Bill roof is a David Fletcher design and is completely built out of laser cut plywood. It is very simple and ingenious in its design and assembly. Even the most novice builder can achieve a spectacular looking Duck Bill roof.
The builder will need to provide their choice of wheel sets, couplers and decals.
The kits can be completed in a few evenings.
